Indonesia set an unprecedented record for the first time participating in the World Cup. Even so, it was a record of no glorification.
Indonesia is known as the first Southeast Asian team to attend a world football finals. At the 1938 World Cup, Indonesia was a Dutch colony and they were known as the Dutch East Indies, the Dutch East Indies.
If at present, in order to participate in the biggest football festival on the planet, the teams must go through a very hard journey, then that day Indonesia only took one operation to send an application to attend.
Indonesia was supposed to meet Japan in the Asian region (because there were only 2 teams registered) but the sun team withdrew from the Second Sino-Japanese war.
Later, FIFA intended to arrange Indonesia play-off rock with the US. However, the US also refused because they thought that they deserved to go straight to the finals instead of having to play qualifying with an anonymous team from Southeast Asia.
So Indonesia naturally participated in the 1938 World Cup without losing a single sweat. They together with Netherlands, Cuba and Norway are 4 rookies of the tournament.
Like the tournament that took place four years earlier (1934), the 1938 World Cup played in a knockout format. According to the draw result, the opponent of Indonesia in the first round is Hungary.
With a lineup of both civil servants and students, even the captain wearing glasses, it is not surprising that Indonesia lost to 0-6 and was eliminated from the tournament.
Since the teams eliminated after the first round of the 1934 and 1938 World Cups have appeared at the world football festival at least once more, Indonesia has gone down in history, as the only team 1 match in the World Cup finals.
